What is the CA Intermediate Course?

The CA Intermediate Course, regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), is the second and most defining stage of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) journey. It is designed for students who have cleared the CA Foundation or are eligible through the direct entry route, aiming to deepen their understanding of Accounting, Corporate and Other Laws, Taxation, Financial Management, and Auditing.

 Income Tax (Basics to Heads of Income), Residential Status, TDS, Advance Tax, GST, Supply, ITC, Registration.
Group 2 Paper 4 Cost and Management Accounting Subjective

(3 Hours)

 Costing Methods, Cost Sheet, Budgetary Control, Standard Costing, Marginal Costing, Decision Making.
Paper 5 Auditing and Code of Ethics Subjective

(3 Hours)

 Audit Process, Risk Assessment, Internal Controls, Audit Reporting, Professional Ethics.
Paper 6 Financial Management & Strategic Management Subjective

(3 Hours)

 Capital Budgeting, Working Capital, Leverages, Ratio Analysis, Business Strategy, SWOT, Risk Management.

*You must achieve a minimum of 40% in each paper and an overall 50% aggregate (200/400 marks) to pass. (Note: There is no negative marking in any of the CA Intermediate papers under the current ICAI scheme.)

CA Intermediate Course Duration

The CA Intermediate Course takes 8–10 months and is the second, more rigorous stage of the CA journey with ICAI-defined study and eligibility rules.

The course is governed by the following ICAI minimum requirements:
  • Minimum Study Period: Students must register with ICAI and complete eight months of study before appearing for the CA Intermediate exam.
  • Eligibility to Register:
    • Foundation Route: Students who clear CA Foundation can register for CA Intermediate.
    • Direct Entry Route: Graduates, postgraduates, and CMA Inter pass-outs can register directly.
  • Eligibility to Appear: Students must complete the study period and ICAI requirements like ICITSS before appearing for the exam.
  • Registration Validity: CA Intermediate registration remains valid for five years, and students can revalidate it by paying a prescribed fee if required.
